That You May Know
Focus Verse: Luke 1:31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will call His name Jesus. (Luke 1:31)
Monday [Luke 1:1-4]

Adult Connect

Luke’s Gospel is written for us to know with certainty that Jesus Christ is who He says He is (Luke 1:4). Jesus was born as a child and lived a sinless life that we may know God loves us. Christ was born that we may know with certainty that God is intimately involved with His creation (the incarnation). We deal with uncertainty all around us. A.W. Tozer said, “We must meet the uncertainties of this world with the certainty of the world to come.” Thank God the good news of the gospel shows us the realness and certainty of our Savior’s love.

We can be certain that Christ is the Son of God because of the truth of the Word. In our society today truth is what you touch, see, and experience. Luke proclaims the accurate truth of God’s Word that has been handed down through generations. Do you trust in the certainty and authenticity of God’s Word? God’s Word is the Christians instruction manual for life, we must embrace it and know that it is truth.    “A Bible that’s falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn’t.”― Charles H. Spurgeon

Remind your child today that even though we can not see God (invisible), Jesus came to the world to show us that God is real. Jesus was a real man that we may know and see our Savior. Often kids have a difficult time grasping the realness of God and His Word. Help reinforce the humanity and certainty we have in Christ today.

Tuesday [Luke 1:5-12)

Adult Connect

The angel of the Lord appeared to Zacharias (1:11) on a normal day. As he had many times before, Zacharias was serving as priest and conducting his normal cultic activities. While he was burning incense to the Lord, Yahweh’s messenger appeared. Are we living in such a way in our daily lives that we expect the Lord to appear to us? Often, we seek special events, conferences, and concerts to hear God. Rather than constantly seek occasional special divine appointments, the Bible shows us that God appears most often in every day life. Live in a way that you expect to hear from the Lord daily.  Have you listened today? May we build within the daily rhythms of our lives the discipline of hearing and seeking daily His grace.

Youth Connect

Are you going through the motions of normal daily activities? Even if your daily activities include good things such as Church, devotion, and bible studies we should always be prepared to hear from God and change our normal plans for his extraordinary plans.  We should always be anticipating God working, speaking, and using us for His glory. Are you anticipating God to do something extraordinary in your life today?

Wednesday [Luke 1:26-33]

Adult Connect

Jesus was born to save us from our sins. His name means Savior. Have you accepted the free gift of salvation only found in the King of Kings (Luke 1:32) John Calvin stated, “ "Since no man is excluded from calling upon God the gate of salvation is open to all. There is nothing else to hinder us from entering, but our own unbelief." We also see in God’s Word that Jesus Christ is the Son of the Highest. Is living for Christ  and living in the power of His saving grace your highest priority today?

Youth Connect

Jesus saves us to become followers of His. Are you a follower or just a fan? Fans come and go. Many have made a decision to believe in Jesus without making a commitment to follow Jesus. Followers are called to devote their lives to the Savior.  What does your devotion to Christ look like on a daily basis? Are you simply an admirer of Jesus or are you a committed follower?

Clubhouse Connect (Kids)

Have you talked to your child about the saving grace of Jesus Christ? Spend time reminding your kids today that Jesus loves them and died on the cross to save them from their sins.

Thursday [Luke 2:1-7]

Adult Connect

Jesus was born in Bethlehem. Bethlehem means the house of bread. Jesus reminds us that He is the bread of life (John 6:35   And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst). After arriving in the city, the family of Christ found no room in the inn. Do we have room for Christ in our lives? Are you feasting on the bread of life? May we develop an appetite for God’s Word and grow in our knowledge of His grace and truth.

Youth Connect

In so many of our lives today we are consumed with activity, not necessarily sinful activity, but things that keep us busy (School, sports, friends). The innkeeper had been so busy and preoccupied with the business of making room for guests that he missed the greatest event in history. Jesus wants room in your life. (John 4:14 “but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”) In the midst of your busy schedule are you making room for Jesus? What are some changes you need to make in your life so you can make room for Jesus?

How many times have you been told to eat more fruits and vegetables? It is important to eat fruits and vegetables because they provide nutrients that help our physical bodies grow. In the same way, we must spend time reading God’s Word so that we can grow spiritually.

Friday [Luke 2:8-14]

Adult Connect

The angels came praising God and saying: Glory to God in the highest (Luke 2:14). Have you spent time today thanking and praising God? Where the grace of our Savior rests we find peace and goodness. Do you need peace, rest, and goodwill in your life today? Take note of the angels who praised:  "If pride turned some of the angels into demons, then humility can doubtless make angels out of demons” (John Climacus). Choose praise, peace, and humility.

Youth Connect

As Christians, each day we should remember who provided us salvation. We should find comfort and peace knowing Jesus is the founder and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). He is worthy of our praise (Psalms 145:3). Do you have peace and joy in your life today? Does your time in prayer include praising our Savior?

John 16:33 “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
