That You May Know…The Way of the Lord is Prepared
Luke 3:4 as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah: A voice of one crying out in the wilderness: Prepare the way for the Lord; make His paths straight!
Monday [Luke 2:25-35]

Adult Connect

Luke 2:25   And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. We live in a fast paced world. Often we find it difficult to wait. May we learn from Simeon who did not know death until he met Christ face to face. The Scriptures do not indicate how long Simeon waited, but we know that he was a man just, righteous, and full of patience. May we slow down today and wait on the strength that only comes from the Most High God.

"One of the great disadvantages of hurry is that it takes such a long time." (G.K. Chesterton)

There are so many extra activities that are keeping students busy (sports, entertainment, social life, etc.) and in most cases stressed out. God didn't create you just to stay busy with activities. God created you so you could know him and have fellowship with him. If your activities and responsibilities out weigh your devotion with the Lord, then you are to busy. When is the last time you concentrated on your devotion with the Lord rather than being distracted by the love of the world (1 John 2:15). To what activities and responsibilities do you give more of your time than you do to Christ? What changes do you need to make so your devotion with Christ becomes a priority in your life?

Parents are you practicing the discipline of waiting on the Lord? Does your family know how to rest/Sabbath? Help impress upon your family today the need and the value of waiting. Take a moment to play the quiet game/quiet mouse (the first one who speaks loses).

Tuesday [Luke 2:25-35)

… and Mary and Joseph marveled. Simeon spoke the words of truth, life, and salvation (v.29) to Mary and Joseph. What a wonderful reminder that we are to carry the good news of Jesus with us. Who are you carrying the good news of Jesus to this week? Pray for opportunities to share the gospel. Who is marveling at the words of truth in your life?

Is. 52:7   How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the herald, who proclaims peace, who brings news of good things, who proclaims salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!”

Is the only time during the week you talk about Jesus is with your friends at church? We are to be witnesses not just at church but everywhere we go.

Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Think about the people you come in contact with everyday on your school campus. You may be the the instrument in Gods hands that is used to bring the gospel to your campus. Pray and always look for opportunities to share Christ.

Clubhouse Connect (Kids)

Think about a time you have really really good news to share. What was that news? A new toy, a new brother/sister, a party? How much more exciting is the good news of Jesus Christ? Who is someone you can tell about Jesus?

Barnyard (Preschool)

Think about how a flower grows. After a seed is planted, it needs water, sunlight, and proper nutrients to help it grow.  In our lives we can read our Bibles and pray to help us grow and be strong in Christ. Are you growing in Christ?

Take time to pray and ask the Lord to open doors for you to share Christ this week. Who are you inviting into your life to see your worship and know your Savior?

Wednesday Luke [2:39-40]

Adult Connect

And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him (Luke 2:40). How are you growing in Christ today? Even Jesus grew and become strong, filled with wisdom and grace. Are you intentionally growing in the Lord? Often the greatest growth occurs daily rather than in giant bursts. Discipline yourself and prioritize your life so that you grow in the grace and truth of Jesus Christ daily. Start with memorizing and living out our weekly focus verse (Luke 3:4).

Such as do not grow in grace, decay in grace. There is no standing at a stay in religion, either we go forward or backward; if faith does not grow, unbelief will; if heavenly mindedness doth not grow, covetousness will. A man that doth not increase his stock diminisheth it; if you do not improve your stock of grace, your stock will decay. The angels on Jacob's ladder were either ascending or descending; if you do not ascend in religion, you descend. (Thomas Watson)

Just like an athlete that has to train in order to perform at the highest level, we as Christians must intentionally train so that we can grow in the knowledge and strength of Jesus Christ. You cannot take a light hearted approach to discipline, growth does not happen by accident. Our training may include getting up earlier before school to spend time in this devotion or your bible, memorizing scripture, and seeking accountability from other Christians in training. Are you spiritually “out of shape” because of lack of training? What must you do to become more like Jesus?

Thursday [Luke 3:1-6]

Adult Connect

…as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness:‘ Prepare the way of the LORD; Make His paths straight (Luke 3:4). As certain as John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus Christ, still today God is preparing your life and those around you to hear the good news of Jesus Christ. No matter what you will face today and this week, know that the Lord has already prepared the way. How is God preparing your heart today? How is God using you to prepare the hearts of others?

Youth Connect

Remember the anticipation leading up to the first day of school after a summer break. The weeks before school starts you prepare by going shopping. You get the school supplies, new back pack, new shoes, clothes, and you wait in line to get that top locker because nobody wants on the bottom. Just like you prepared for a new year of school, God is preparing people to hear the gospel. John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus so that the good news could be proclaimed all over the world. Think about who you may influence on a daily basis on your campus. God may be using you to prepare them to hear the gospel.

What are some things that you prepare in advance (i.e. study for a test, plan a birthday party, get ready for school)? We make preparations so that we can be ready for whatever we will face. Did you know that God prepares you? He prepares our hearts to obey him. Think about some ways that you can obey God.

Friday [Luke 3:7-20]

Adult Connect

Luke 3:10  So the people asked him, saying, “What shall we do then?” Do you have a personal relationship with the Lord? Have you ever wondered what shall I do in response to the good news of Jesus? Are you daily asking the Lord what shall you do? Do you know how to answer the question: what should I do in response to the gospel of Jesus Christ? How will your friends, family, and neighbors answer that question? Thank God that in Jesus we have the answer.

Youth Connect

When ever we are confronted with the truth of the gospel our response should be “What shall we do then?” Does your testimony provide an answer to that question? When the light of the gospel exposes the brokenness of sin, the correct response should be, “What shall I do then? This is the way the people who heard John responded. What should we repent of? What changes should be made? How should we live? As believers we can point people to Jesus and proclaim with our words and out testimony that he has the answers.

Kids always ask a ton of questions, especially why or how. In the Bible we read about many people who asked John the Baptist the same question. Yet, one of the greatest questions anyone can ask is: what should I do in response to the saving grace of Jesus. Remind your kids how to respond to Jesus in faith. What must I do? Believe, confess, and obey.
