Baptism is a picture of how our acceptance of Christ as our Savior has caused us to take on His characteristics. We are buried with him in baptism and raised to a new life in Him. Down with the old…up with the new.
Romans 6:4 Therefore we were buried with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newness of life.
Baptism is a symbol of our salvation, a demonstration of your new spiritual condition, and it unifies us as believers, confirming that we belong together. Of course, the inner washing of the sin from our hearts must always come first. But the Bible is also clear that Christ-followers must follow Christ. Simply put, baptism demonstrates a spirit of faith and surrender to the Savior’s way.
